How is it only day 2 of my trip in Europe? Today was filled. We started with our official opening ceremonies and got to learn a lot about the culture here. We were all dared to go out and try something new. Not just a tourist thing that we had never tried, but something special about Denmark. My dare was: Sneak into a courtyard and see how people live. The buildings are relatively closed to the outside, but they all have a public space in the center with a garden or benches.
So at some point I will have to wander around and find a nice courtyard to sit in.
We then went on The Amazing Race: Denmark Style. It was a great way to take in a lot of the city and see some of the big sites that I will definitely be going back to for a closer look. Everything here is so beautiful. We stopped by Amalienborg – The Royal Palace. It is made up of four separate buildings. One is occupied by the Queen, another by the Crown Prince and his family. One of the unoccupied buildings is open for tours, I will be going back there soon. Stay posted.
Then we went to Kgs. Nytorv/Nyhavn. It is one of the many ports in the city. The buildings that line the sides are beautiful and look like pictures of homes in Amsterdam. There are canal tours that leave from that port, so maybe I’ll take a ride on that too.
We also stopped at Rosenborg – The Palace of Christian IV. It was his summer palace and is set in the most beautiful garden. I hope to spend a lot of the beautiful days there reading or sleeping or just watching.
Then after walking around Copenhagen for the entire morning, we grabbed a quick bite and headed to class. The World of Vikings is going to be a fantastic course. My professor and the syllabus seems great and every day I get more and more excited for the trip to Iceland.
I ended out the day at an Irish bar, in Copenhagen, watching the Germany/Brazil game. This is probably the first World Cup game I have watched this year, and thank goodness it was entertaining.
I think I’m going to like it here.
