The next leg of my adventure began today. I made it safe and sound to Iceland, and I hate the fact that I only have less than a week in this beautiful little country.
My apartment in Copenhagen is filled with students from four different classes, and every class is going on a different trip this week. Some are going to Poland, others to Sweden, and some to western Denmark. I really think the Viking class is winning with the Iceland trip. Most of my house mates were out pretty early in the morning, but I didn’t have to be at the airport until 17:45 (look at me I’m so Danish) (5:45).
While in Iceland I will be giving a presentation on the Viking Expansion West, it is a really cool topic, because as I have been learning the last two weeks, the Vikings really deserve a lot more credit than they got. After a pretty productive morning, the few of us that were left headed out for a Danish lunch, because there was no more food in our apartments haha. I had a smoreebord open faced sandwich with roast beef, onion, horseradish shavings, and a fantastic chutney.
Kelsey and I have a list of Denmark sites that we still want to see, so we spent a bit of time at the Copenhagen Amber Museum. It was very small and mostly a gift shop, but the amber was stunning. They had pieces worth thousands of dollars, and they had so many items. The museum part of the building showed how amber was formed and how they manipulate it. It was a great hour long excuse to get out of the house.
Our flight to Iceland went smoothly, and when we landed at 10pm it was sunny. Well it was cloudy, but much brighter than one would expect 10pm to be. We got settled into our hotel and took a late night walking tour of the city. The sun began to set around 11:30, and even now at 12:220 there is still a bit of sunlight out in the sky. We are staying in Reykjavik and I can’t wait to get out and explore more of the city. The sun is supposedly going to come up at 3 in the morning, so that is something to look forward to I guess. The new adventure has begun, and I can already tell it’s going to be great!
