Today was my last day in Iceland and my first day back in Copenhagen. Iceland has easily been one of the most beautiful places I have ever been too, and I was very sad to leave it behind.
We left the hotel relatively early…but some of our group didn’t take our departure time seriously. We sat in the parking lot for half an hour waiting for them to make an appearance, left, turned around after 5 minutes to pick up two of the four girls that were missing and then went on our way. The other two just met up with us in the airport, but enough about them.
While we were only in Iceland for a few hours today, we had a fantastic time! We had the opportunity to go swimming in the Blue Lagoon. It is a naturally heated hot spring pool, just a short drive from the airport. The water is a strange milky blue, you can barely see your own hand under the surface. Even more surprising, the bottom of the pool is a dark black sand. If you didn’t grab up a handful, you would never know.
The water was the perfect warm temperature, and was perfectly relaxing. I only wish we had more time there.
The flight back to Copenhagen went fine. We were surrounded by children and families on the flight. I know my parents flew with me when I was under the age of four, and I don’t have any recollection of it, but I like to think I was better behaved than these kids. One toddler was running up and down the aisles, and everyone under 2 cried for the entire three hour flight.
We made it back safe and sound, and it really felt like coming home. Over the last two weeks, my apartment here, and all of my housemates, really feel like family. Not that I’m thinking of leaving, but it’s hard to believe I’ll be back in Mount Prospect in a week. This city is something special, and I am set on making the most of this last week. Whether it be going to class, writing my paper, touring the city, or planning reunion trips, every moment will be used to its fullest, that is something I can guarantee.
I am so glad I got to spend a week in Iceland, and I m so glad to be back in Copenhagen, I just wish I could have a bit more of both!
